Ticking all the right little boxes

Set the alarm for 6. Prized myself from bed at 7. Airborne before 9. Chilly up to 3500 (where the clouds are) and then really quite balmy above that due to a temperature inversion.
I was hoping to cruise upwards until the fuel ran out but my engine started to falter at 5000' due to what I think must be a holed pump diaphragm. My house is down there about a quarter of the way up the picture - and B most probably still snoozing wondering what that faint buzzing noise in the sky is.
