Everyday I Write The Book

Steaming

Stopped at Pyrford lock on the way up to see the Aged P today, the sun was hitting the canal but it was icy everywhere and the steam was rising; so was the smoke from the houseboats' wood burning stoves. Must be cold on them thair narrowboats.

We went out for breakfast at Cafe Rouge where there was a lot of people watching to be had as the waiters flirted outrageously with women who were older enough (twice as old enough in fact) to know better. Aged P soaked it up like Miss Marple watching a tea party murder without even raising an eyebrow, whilst slowly munching her way through her Full English.

Daughter dropped in unexpected for the evening on a 24 hour sojourn from Uni so we cooked thai and stuff (TSM did rather nice courgette and haloumi fritters with houmus). In between all this another work incident to deal with, this time a potential hazardous chemical spill. For some reason I always get the fun ones when I'm on call, and this took a good hour of ringing around and alerting the necessary agencies and liaison etc before the thing was officially declared a non-event, quarantined and put to bed.

Now full, tired and I have to say rather contented. But might need the electric blanket tonight ...
