Not so Bonnie Banks

What a very lucky girl!

And I don't just mean Mrs T on her birthday today.

Bit of a long story, but here goes - We ended up on the shores of Loch Lomond this afternoon and were enjoying a walk along the shore-side just up a little from Balmaha. It's a beautiful spot that's on the not so crowded east shore. it does have some very real dangers though. And not just the cold, dark waters.

I mean dangers of man's making.

As we were setting up the camera and tripod for a nice scenic shot, Breagha was rooting around in the bushes as spaniels do, when she jumped down onto the path with something tasty in her mouth. All that was immediately visible was the tail-fin of a fish. Obviously one that had been discarded by one of the many anglers that go up that side of the loch.

Some shouting and a grab of her scruff stopped her from wolfing it down. And just as well too, as a closer look showed some fishing line with a hook dangling out too. this was not just a thrown-away fish tail. This one was all wrapped up in the remains of a fishing line with assorted hooks still attached!

Somehow I was able to get the thing out of her mouth, but she was not at all happy at losing what she thought was a yummy catch. And what's more amazing both her and I seem to have avoided getting hooked and neither did I get bitten as I prized open her jaws.

The sheer mindless irresponsibility of some people beggars belief sometimes. I sudden to think of the damage that could have been caused if we hadn't grabbed her in time, of if she'd just decided to scoff it while still in the bushes.

As I packed up the camera gear, Mrs T headed back to the village and was going to stop off and have a word with the two anglers that we passed on the way there and show them what a lucky escape Breagha had had. But as she got there they were tight against the wall getting ready to stick a needle into their arms. Just fabulous! What a great advert for our National Park.

She's had lots of cuddles since we got home.
