Jarvisness

Bairro Alto, Lisbon

Lisbon's Bairro Alto is more about the street socialising than the bars, although there's no shortage of them - many with live music. It's a nightlife district where the district itself is the nightlife. The economics of street drinking have driven the prices down in the bars - all of which serve drinks in plastic cups so people can wander the area without having to stay in one establishment - so a night out in the Alto can be very economical, which Jarvises of course approve of. The only downside is that the average age of drinkers in the Bairro Alto is about 20.5 - youth is a deservedly valued commodity, but like any commodity, an oversupply is not always desirable.
