Balloons for a new school

Today my kid's school marked the final day in their old school with a nice ceremony of releasing balloons.

The school, built in 1954, will soon be demolished as the children are moving into their new school building on the same site when the return after half term.

All of the children were given a balloon which they counted down and released into the sky. Each balloon has a number attached with a phone number, and the child who's balloon travels the furthest gets a prize. As a parent-governor, I also got to release a balloon!

It was quite emotional really - well, I saw one kid crying, but I don't know if it was to do with it being the last day in the old school!

But it was sad in a way - you get used to things the way they are, but a change is for the best in this case.
