Fuel

Fuel prices are news of the day, the transport sector is often heard complaining first about the exorbitant high level. Not completely without a reason. The shipping industry is also part of the transport sector of course. A shipping company like the Danish operator Maersk has more than 500 ships in service, transporting 1.9 million containers a year. Can you imagine what impact the soaring fuel prices have on their budget? Their biggest vessel, the 'Emma Maersk' uses approximately 320 tonnes of heavy fuel every day, and recently Maersk announced that they are going to slow down their vessels a bit in order to reduce the CO2 and NOx emissions. Might be true, but don't you think it has also something to do with their fuel budget? Anyway, on this picture you can see the Italian tug 'Carlo Magno' handing over her tow to our tug 'Retriever' this afternoon. The 'Carlo Magno' is high in the water because her shortage on fuel. After handing over she departs to Norway in order to refuel. You can see also that the weather on the northern North Sea is beautiful.
