They're Scotland's Apples !

If you remember it (and I doubt if many do ) there was a long and very funny sketch satirising the "Scotland's Oil" campaign performed in the 1970s by Scotland The What ? entitled "They're Scotland's Tatties". It came to mind this morning when I came face to face with what is billed as Scotland's National Apple Collection at the LORN Producers Market in Benderloch.

The collection, however , is very impressive and very fascinating. I was shown it by John Hancox of Scottish Orchards who do excellent work with schools, helping them to create small orchards and building self sufficiency and environmental understanding.

This was just one of two full tables and it is by no means, he claims, an exhaustive display of the variety of apples that have been grown in Scotland though some are reduced to one or two trees now.

The market was great fun too - a wonderful collection of stalls with some great local produce for sale. It was my first visit to the full LORN event, which are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month. I shall be back.
