where paths meet

Path through trees

The path leads into the Carr Vale reserve near Bolsover. The reserve is in the floor of the Doe Lea valley with small lakes, or flashes, that are the result of previous industrial activity. The view is from the junction with the Stockley Trail along a former railway line.

Now I have been in the area for a year it is interesting to see how the scene changes through the seasons.

The whole area has undergone significant changes over recent years, with the large Coalite site nearby still home for a lot of derelict buildings and the need for further clearance and redevelopment. The pattern in many places in NE Derbyshire is to split the old industrial sites into part industrial park and part nature reserve. It is good to see that the nature reserves seem to be doing well and are generally popular with local people.
