trinkets

my daughters' capacity for spending money on sweets and/or trinkets is phenomenal. As a child I rarely bought either - I rarely had money, couldn't eat sweets (allergies to artificial colours and flavours) and, if I did buy things it was usually a book or a record (for those of you who remember such things as books and records ;-) These days I'm the same - money spent on words and music is well spent, food and fuel and stuff is just boring, clothes and trinkets are frivolous.
By the end of the shopping trip, after they'd exhausted their own money I was to be found outside the trinket shop singing this - maybe I should've put a hat on the floor and tried to get some money back...?
