Seeds - Playing the Long Game

Today I planted seeds. Lots of seeds. Autumn is a good time of year to sow seed of winter growing bulbs. They germinate and grow just as the bulbs would do, leaves emerging through the winter.

These are crocus seeds, super macro. Each seed is around 2mm long. They are planted in a soil based compost with added sharp sand and perlite. The seeds are planted deep, about 2cm below the surface. This is where the baby bulbs end up even if the seed is surface sown. They'll go in a cold frame where they will stay for a long time. First repotting will be in two years. If I'm lucky first flowers in three.

Off to Wales tomorrow, very weak mobile signal .... may be a few back blips when we return.
