We are the Knights who say Ni

Following mountain treks it was time to stay a little closer to the Villa and one of the many things we went to see was Kolossi Castle. This area is closely linked to the production and distribution of wine from and to Cyprus.

The Castle is fairly well maintained and still has a functional portcullis and drawbridge, as well as fortifications where they could douse you in oil. There has been quite a bit of restoration work undertaken which gives you some idea of how the Castle would have looked, but it has been done well. The castle was first built in the 13th Century and then rebuilt in the 15th Century. There are also still traces of fresco's on the inner walls which are fairly spectacular.

To me it looks a little like the castle from Monty Python's the Holy Grail. We did not see any Knights Templar, or indeed Knights that say Ni
