Many Strands

On foot rest today yesterday Blip
No escaping the mountain of paperwork but also a chance for ten minutes here and there to continue with Labour of Love.
Namely, restoring the silk fringing of this huge shawl to its former glory.
Fringing was full of massive tangles, most of which are now fixed.
Next stage is to gently smooth each strand by wiping with damp cotton wool.
There are many strands!
Working on the shawl has made me appreciate the skill and time that went into producing the fringing, all done by hand.
I think it's done using Macrame techniques.

Macrame is something much maligned by me previously, due to an abundance of badly made, hideous plant pot holders that were gifted each year by an aged relative and definitely belonged in the knitted yoghurt category.
Before the Macrame brigade start calling for my head on a plate...let me just say, I know better now!
Am sure there must be some amazing contemporary work being created these days.

A record of some intricate traditional patterns

Huge thankyou to razor sharp and multi-talented Semper Carpe Diem for the maths reminder, prior to purchasing the shawl.

'The length of the hypotenuse is the square root of the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides'
The diagonal of the shawl is indeed 198cm+fringe etc !!!

To continue the MANY STRANDS theme...

Thank you HERE
and HERE
for St Paul's updates

...And thanks to all those campaigning against ruthless greed.
