Methow River - Large Wood

Spent the day on the Methow River near Winthrop, Washington. I have to say its pretty nice being on the east side of the mountains with the fall colors.

This is a picture of some large wood pieces being installed along the banks of the river to slow bank erosion that is threatening a bridge abutment on a newly constructed cable stayed pedestrian bridge. Following the large wood installation the area will be planted with cottonwood poles and riparian vegetation which is intended to ultimately provide long term protection to the bridge abutment.
