Whoop a Whooper!!!

After a good few days with my parents I reluctantly left Yorkshire today and headed home. A short detour took me to the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust at Welney. It's still very early days for the winter migration but there are already several families of Whooper swans and 2 or 3 Bewicks (which weren't visible).

The photos are a bit fuzzy as was behind glass in the comfort of the viewing gallery. As you can see, the day was a fine one. Haven't we had some lovely days this Autumn so far?

Here are some other images from the day.

From the visitor centre over Lady Fen.
Over the bridge to the reserve itself - part of the Ouse Wash drainage.
Huge flocks of Wigeon (distant shot)
The teasels are really abundant this year. Love the curly bits.
Coming into land!
Liked the water on this one.
Dramatic fenland sky.
There must be a funny caption for this!!!
Elegance personified - well, swanified.
