Colours ~ Liberty

Well the car saga is finally drawing to a conclusion...

I took it into the garage today and showed the guy the problem. Within 5mins he had the answer. Apparently there is a break in the tube providing fluid to the power steering. That explained why I was experiencing a loss of grip in right hand turns. Heh, I've tried to turn the wheel of that car while the engine is off and without the power steering it is impossible. This feature always seemed strange to me. I have stalled the car and it's impossible to control steering. Anyway, they have to order the part and so it won't be ready until next week. After speaking with the transport department at work I've got one of the demo Ford Galaxies to use over the weekend. Bloody hell, it's a TANK!!! Plus it's an automatic, which I'd never driven before today. Very different to a manual. Don't like it... Anyway, it'll get me to Glasgow and back tomorrow for the Mozart concert so all's good!

Another delve into the history books for tonight's blip. I hope you can all see her, looking down on the statue from above.

This day in 1886 the Statue of Liberty was officially dedicated by Grover Cleveland, 22nd* president of the United States of America.

Presented as a gift to America from the people of France, Liberty Enlightening the World was conceived to commemorate the French and American revolutions and the friendship between the two countries. The 46m high statue was sculpted by Frédéric Bartholdi who modelled the face on that of his mother. In her right hand, Liberty bears torch held above her head, while in her left, she holds a tablet inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence. The seven spikes on her crown represent the seven seas and continents.

* As a small aside, Cleveland was also the 24th president, the only person to serve non-consecutive terms and therefore be counted twice in the list of presidents (I didn't know that until tonight)!
