Piping Plover male

A piping plover running, at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary in Westport Mass., during a four-day visit. The combination of black and orange on his beak indicates his sex--see here for the first day and a bit more info.

This individual is in breeding mode, hinted at by his rather low posture and his slightly puffed-out throat (it can go further).
