A Sasanach's Skye photos

By Sasanach

Piaza del Campo, Siena

How does one choose one picture from so many? I chose this one because by the afternoon when the sun had gone behind the cloud there were less people about and less strong shadows.

In the image I have joined two photographs together to try to show the piazas imense size and the fact that it is scallop shaped. It is here that there is an annual horse race. At the day of the race 40,000 people will enter the centre and have to remain there for over five hours. The race lasts one and a half minutes.

The balconies around the piaza are favourite viewing places but tickets to these can cost between £200 and £400. It is a beautiful city to visit with far more to see than we had time for. However I cannot imagine being there in the heart of the summer!
