Carson's Lookout, Thuderbolt's Way

Captain Thunderbolt was a bushranger who practised his trade in the Armidale area.
His real name was Fred Ward, and as a youth, became well known for breaking and training horses. He stole some horses and was caught and sentenced to prison on Cockatoo Island. He escaped and started his bushranger career. As with other bushrangers, Captain Thunderbolt has gone down in history and is somewhat favourably looked on. This road which stretches for some 290 kilometres, 180 miles in any event is named after him.

The storm clouds to the south proved to be a bit of a nightmare as I ran into a huge storm about an hour after this which forced me to wait on the side of the road and be hailed upon with hail the size of hens eggs. Needless to say some damage to the car but no broken windscreens and all safe in the end.
