Day 395

Waitomo to Rotorua

Rotorua is the heartland of Maori culture. So we went off to a Maori village, saw the Haka and ate a Hungi. The Hungi is the traditional way of cooking food. A pit is dug in the ground and a bit fire lit. When the embers have become very hot rocks are put onto of the fire. Baskets of food are then put in the pit, and everything covered in earth. Sever hours later, voilà a beautiful feast of steamed meat and veg!

Couldn't count the number of times I've seen the Haka in New Zealand and while it was so exhilarating to see it close up and personal in Rotorua, the challenge to France at the final was absolutely spine tingling!
