Northern Exposure

Managed to escape at lunchtime for a birl on the bike as it was such a glorious day.

Stopped of at the beach at the 4th barrier to see what changes the recent storms have wrought. A friend was telling me of another beach at Inganess, further North, where all the sand has vanished. Just shore, then stones, then seaweed, then sea. Not a grain to be seen where last week there was a wide sandy beach. It will probably return with the next storm, shorelines change fast around here.

The sand builds up at this beach. It's grown steadily from deep water to dunes since they built the barriers during the war. Totally changed the shoreline. Under the sand are the remains of the blockships. I know people who used to dive off the prow into the sea not that long ago. When we arrived 8 years ago the mast of the largest was still sticking well out of the sand, last year you could hardly stick your hand between it and the sand and today I couldn't even see it. Although that may be because of the mountains of seaweed piled high all along the tideline. Never seen it so deep, I would have been up to mid thigh if I had been inclined to wade through it. Which strangely I had no desire to do.
