November Woods

Whitwell Woods, NE Derbyshire. I was last there in the spring when the leaves were new and fresh. Now they are falling, but it is another great time of year to visit. Autumn colours are one of my favourite markers of the changing seasons.

On returning home I listened to "November Woods", an orchestral tone poem by Bax. He is a composer I struggle to "get", but it's always worth persevering. English composers I generally find more elusive, I enjoy the German, central European and Russian repertoire, whether orchestral, chamber or instrumental.
