Sudden plethora of big, fluffy cats around our compound. Not unusual, you'd think, but the Chinese are not traditionally into domestic pets. Dogs are becoming more popular- especially mini ones which you can dress in shoes, coats and hats, and dye their ears and paws in neon colours*- but not cats. Obviously someone has taken a liking to them- this chap looked quite the cock-of-the-walk.

(* not the only reason small dogs are popular, but probably the main one. Legally you're not allowed to have big dogs within the 5th Ring Road of Beijing, I think, and there are allocated times for dog-walking during the day- once in the morning and once at night. Oh yes, it's all about obeying the rules here. Apart from the ones you don't have to obey. Figuring out which is which is the real challenge.)
