The Bendy Bridge

Was passing through the city of Londonderry today and stopped to have a look at the new peace bridge which was opened earlier this year. The new pedestrian bridge runs from Guildhall Square on the Cityside to the site of the former Ebrington Barracks on the Waterside.

I didn't realise it was just as bendy as it is - and there's also quite a rise from the Cityside at almost water level to well above the river Foyle on the Waterside. In total, it cost £14million and is the length of two and a half football pitches!

Just as I was taking the photos, the train appeared under the bridge, coming in towards Londonderry railway station, having travelled one of the 'most beautiful rail journeys in the world' according to seasoned traveller, Michael Palin. The rail line between Londonderry/Derry and Coleraine passes along the coast, as well as under a tunnel beneath the Mussenden Temple at the former Bishop's palace at Downhill.
