Otira

Otira gorge

We left Christchurch while it was nice and sunny and started to cross To the West Coast, when we got to Otira the snow on the road was getting thicker and the ploughs were out trying to keep it clear. The guy in from of us started slipping coming down the gorge......then he stopped in the middle of the road and wouldn't move any more, he looked petrified.
We stopped at the lower of the two lookouts to get a shot of the view, I couldn't believe this cheeky kea who is obviously used to posing for the visitors. After I had taken about 30 shots we got back in the car, none of the traffic that had got stuck behind the guy at the top had been able to get through. It was a very quiet journey with no more traffic from then on.
