Getting the sparkle back

Penicuik House stable block

I passed by this building on a wonderfully sunny but cold walk today (the weather has turned as forecast) with my walking group. Athough it's only about 10 miles away from my home, I had never been here before. Penicuik House was built in the eighteenth century and was a very fine house indeed - you can see something of that in the stable block. Unfortunately the house was gutted by fire in 1899 and has remained a ruin ever since. However, works are now underway, not to rebuild the house, but to preserve its fabric. If you would like to know more about this, here is a link to the Penicuik House Project.
