Cloud Nine

Sometimes a few small elements swing into place, and you find yourself feeling not bad...pretty good...in fact happy, damn it. Tonight, a combination of not having to rush for the train, getting a decent cup of coffee and the space to read my book did it for me.

And then I learned a new fact, which made me happier still. Apparently the phrase "Cloud Nine" comes from the first edition of The International Cloud Atlas which numbered Cumulonimbus (the tallest of the clouds) as the ninth of the ten types of cloud. So, if you were on cloud nine, you couldn't get any higher.

Oh, I was also happy to have got past the first chapter of The Cloudspotter's Guide.
