A Scottish soldier..

A Scottish soldier - 16 when he joined the Volunteer Brigade. 17 when he went to France a Seaforth Highlander.

"Sir,

I regret to have to inform you that a report has this day been received from the War Office to the effect that (No.) S/42016, Pte Jas B McKemmie, Seaforth Highlanders, is ill at No 72 General Hospital Trouville, France suffering from Effects of Gas. 8/8/18"

He came home. Never spoke of it.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
