Remembrance

Hidden away in the South East corner of Princes Street Gardens West, there's a War Memorial - it's quite subtle, and it's curvature makes it easy to miss.

But it's in this quiet corner that I spotted this tribute to one of the fallen of recent conflict, Gary John O'Donnell.

On a bench dedicated to his memory, his family had left this wreath, the vibrant red the only colour amongst grey stone and wet pavements on this poignant day - 11/11/11.

A personal, moving message to a very brave man; perhaps fitting that it's located somewhere that allows peaceful reflection.

By contrast, the temporary Poppy Memorial Garden next to the Scott Monument is the focal point for the general public to pay their respects- wreaths on one side, with line after line of miniature crosses on the other.

In other news, you may also find this story from my Mum's cousin interesting.
