The morning we are to leave we got 2.5 cm (1 inch) of snow very early in the morning. By mid-morning the snow had turned into rain, which began to melt the new snow. We had put cables on the truck the day before, anticipating the possibility of snow. Fortunately we only needed them to get to the highway as the snowplow and rain had cleared the main roads.
