The Accidental Munroist

Today we decided to head to the Aviemore area - there's a chance of Snow Buntings hanging around the Cairngorm Mountain Railway car park. Ptarmigans tend to be around the path between the car park and the Ptarmigan restaurant. Hopefully closer to the car park. Then we'll head off to Forest Lodge hopefully to find Crested Tit and Crossbills - well that was the plan.

The reality was we left Perth too late to give ourselves much flexibility. On arrival at the Cairngorm Mountain Railway car park and all the way to the Ptarmigan restaurant we didn't see a single bird of any description. Well with the summit of Cairngorm less than 1km away and only 160m to climb we might as well bag a Munro and hopefully find a bird. Well we got the Munro but no birds.

By the time we were back at the Ptarmigan restaurant it was too late for anything else. We decided to give the knees a rest and take the train down (yes we're still ticking the Munro) especially as the over 60s get a concession fare and I might have accidentally omitted to say that it was only Mrs L that qualified.

We stopped off at our favourite cafe on the way back to Aviemore, The Glenmore Mountain Cafe, for soup, hot drink and apple strudel. You'll need to check out RCB's blip to find out what we saw on their bird table. Result!!
