Remembrance Sunday

Was on the radio this morning at 11am. There's normally a very relaxed feel to this show, but today there was the 2 minute silence to broadcast.

Who'd have thought broadcasting silence would be so difficult.

We can't go to complete silence as the emergency backup system would assume we'd fallen off air and kick in after 20 seconds. So we needed to broadcast some sort of noise.

The standard is atmos noise from the Remembrance service in London. We get this live 'down the line'.

I'm always a bit nervous taking anything down the line in case you get the point of fading it up and the line goes dead. In any normal situation you could pad or play a song which wouldn't be appropriate in this situation. So I had a 2 minute piece of ambient silence standing by just in case.

Thankfully I didn't need to use it.
