Honey, honey!

Armillaria mellea - Honey fungus

Went for a stroll round a very pleasant wooded area to the north of Sheffield today. Although it started off dull again, the cloud was higher and by early afternoon, the sun had come out. The mild, wet weather recently has really produced a flush of fungi. We found lots of beautiful stuff, including many fine edible species, including a good number of Penny Buns - one even a foot across. We brought a few home and they made a very tasty addition to the stew we had for tea.
I'm always banging on about urban wildlife in Sheffield - well it looks as though there may be a feature on it on Autumnwatch this Friday - possibly featuring my birding friend, Pete. Watch out for him!
