Sgwarnog: In the Field

Five Bridges

Although it's a cliché, it was inevitable that my first blip from Tyneside would be the bridgescape from Newcastle Quayside. As I lived here for eleven years, I was tempted to bring you some alternative spots from the city, for example:

Grainger Market
Dog Leap Stairs

Renwick Memorial: The Response
John Wesley Memorial

In the end, it was the return back along the Quayside after a quick visit to the Tate Prize 2011 exhibit at the Baltic that provided the image.

There are seven bridges at this point of the Tyne, linking Newcastle and Gateshead. The Gateshead Millenium bridge is behind me, and the further road bridge, Redheugh Bridge is only barely discernible, so you have the central five as the main subject: Tyne Bride, Swing Bridge, High Level Bridge, Metro Bridge and King Edward Bridge.

one river ~ five bridges ~ many journeys
