Wall

We just went for a stroll today to the doctor's, Tesco and home. Alexander's got a bit of a cough, but they weren't concerned....

This is the wall of the old Maryhill Barracks which was the base of the Highland Light Infantry, but which now bounds a high-rise estate. You can still see the hinges and some rather nice weathering at the top.

The barracks have a couple of claims to fame: it was one of the places Rudolf Hess was detained after his flight to Scotland in 1941.
More interesting, to me anyway, during the 1919 Battle of George Square when tanks were deployed against British people and the Riot Act was read for the last time in the UK, the Glaswegian soldiers were confined to these barracks for fear of them joining the rioters. Other members of the battalion were sent into Glasgow, along with troops drafted in from other cities.

This bit of wall is opposite Maryhill Police Station, which as everyone knows is where Taggart is based. And Brian Gribbins who banged up our armed robbers, of course.
