Radical Craft Night at the Museum

The art museum hosted a big party tonight to showcase all manner of crafts and activities: yarn bombing, quilting, weaving, plastic bag re-purposing, collage, music, mask making and more. Artists and crafters demonstrated their media and everyone was invited to participate--learn how to use a sewing machine, bang a piece of metal on the blacksmith's forge, wire an LED light, iron a stack of plastic bags into new sturdy fabric--the choices were so varied and dazzling. The entire three floors of the museum were filled with happy people trying out new forms and enjoying hands-on playing. Lots of kids working alongside adults of all ages. And this wonderful group of young musicians played an amazing collection of traditional and handmade instruments including cardboard tubes, a tray of crystal glasses and a drum kit full of fascinating found objects.
