Boomtown China

By KevinIMitton

A Chinese suburb, Shekou, at night

I took this in colour yet it looks punchier in black and white. It's one of those hazy Chinese evenings and all the colours fade to brown. Pollution or whatever; who knows?

To the far right of the picture is part of a recently constructed 39 storey building, in the foreground a new park. Unfinished and will remain unfinished for some time to come is my guess. Just to the bottom left of the picture is part of the local fishing harbour as seen in November 17th's entry.

At the road junction is a small fish packing factory factory. In fact there are three buildings here that have been left incomplete for at left over two years I was told by a Chinese friend the developers went a head and built without permission then one day government officials turned up and ordered construction to be stopped. There are several other high-rises in the area in the same condition.

Photo tip: if you want starbursts in your night time shots shoot on the smallest possible aperture and hey presto!
