Grotto

Something of a trompe l'?il this one. This photo was not taken at Lourdes or at one of the many shrines to be found by the roadside in Italy or other Catholic countries. Our front terrace had a small niche in the rock. I wondered what it was and then, one day, distinguished a very faint carving of a cross further up the wall. Its purpose then became obvious and so it has been restored to serve its original purpose.
