Sheriffmuir

Remembrance Sunday morning at the memorial to the MacRae clan at the Battle of Sheriffmuir, 13th Nov 1715. The battle was inconclusive, despite Jacobites outnumbering government troops by 3 to 1. Instead of pressing home their advantage, Earl of Mar headed back to Perth, chance missed. What would things be like now if they had won? A different bottom on the throne or something more meaningful?

Anyway, Jimmy (MacRae) the piper played brilliantly in the mist on the moor and the kids sang beautifully. Local historians retired to the pub as we walked to the gathering stane.
