Sled dogs

I had a voucher for Christmas to have a sled dog experience at the Cairngorm Sleddog Centre so we went up today.

It was a great day out, you got to learn about the sled dogs and how it all works, then go out for a ride in a buggy pulled by sled dogs and then pet the sled dogs.

Sled dog racing is a competitive sport and a way of life. It is a 24/7 job to look after and train the dogs. The centre has more than 30 dogs and they are all different kinds - not just huskies. They are used to running and pulling loads and working down to -50 degrees. They are working dogs and very athletic. It was also clear that they loved it - when they realised it was time to go out and pull the buggy they were all howling and leaping about, and the ones who didn't get a turn seemed disappointed!

Here is me in the buggy with the dogs.
