Life on the Sofa - Construction Site

Ben's been a happy boy. Even if yesterday afternoon didn't go at all according to my plans, we got a fair bit done. Ben helped build a new stool for him to go in the bathroom, he helped me dismantle his cotbed and announced that his baby brother could have it now, and then he helped me dress his new mattress with sheets and his duvet and pillow and was MORE than happy to get his pyjamas on and use his new stool to reach the sink in the bathroom to get his teeth cleaned and climb into his new bed to go to sleep in.

I think it was a success! He woke once before we went to bed, obviously a bit disorientated and in need of a wee, but was happy to go back to bed in his bed after. The next time he woke all we heard was "mummy" and then nothing. A little later on he tottered down the hall, obviously remembered where mummy and daddy's room was, and climbed in with me quite happily.

That counts as a success in my books: neither Steve or I needed to get out of bed!

Which was a huge relief as it was 1am by the time we went to bed after finally getting the ceiling painted (sort of) in our room. There was beading to fix to the doorframe and bits of filling to do in the ceiling first which took quite a while. Halfway through painting the radiator fell off the wall...!! The screws came straight out of the rawlplugs holding it in. I'm SO glad it was Steve who brought it down rather than me or Ben: we would have been in SERIOUS trouble if it had been us! As it was, this stopped all painting as Steve needed to stop it leaking before propping it back up to be dealt with this evening before we can do anything else. Never a dull moment in this house-fixing malarky!

This morning we have taken it easy. (Apart from Steve who had to go to work. He has a headache. I'm not surprised. I was gifted a lie-in because Ben wanted to go downstairs and so until Eye-TV decided to quit unexpectedly, Ben was ensconced in front of CBeebies while I had a bit of a bonus snooze!) We've had breakfast, and Ben is now snacking his way through lunch (I think it must be lunch anyway, but he's doing it himself pretty much). Baths and lunch proper in a minute, and then it's off into town on the bus to deal with residents' parking permits, and post office collections, and prescription drop-offs. All fun stuff, and no shopping. Ah well.

We picked up Ben's first Christmas present of the year on Saturday. He doesn't know about it. Amazingly I don't think he picked up on our conversation when we were discussing whether to get it or not! He was too busy clambering on and around (and under) the flatbed trolley at Ikea. It's a kid's workbench. And it looks like it might go pretty well with his existing toolkit! Of course he's not getting it until Christmas, it's not even coming out of its packaging - he can spend half an hour helping Daddy build it on Christmas Day :0)

The "plan" for this evening is to get the wall edges painted, the wallpaper hung, and the radiator fixed back on the wall. Surely that's not too much to ask?!
