Waulkmill Bay

I saw a glaucous gull on the sands here, a bird that visits the UK only in winter from north of the Arctic Circle. I was here to walk the reserve fence of RSPB Hobbister, checking on its condition. Not all the reserve is fenced though; the south edge runs along cliffs. Last week I did the northern half of the reserve, today the southern and I walked from Crook east along Moo Cliff to Roo Point, Spindle and Cony Geo, then up the slope of Grffyelt and to the road. It was really mild again with a breeze from the south. It doesn't feel like late November at all. Other birds encountered were red grouse, fieldfare, lapwing, snipe, a jack snipe, kestrel, sparrowhawk and hen harrier.
