Doe on the go...

Everything pales in comparison to deer.

Communication
White-tailed deer communicate in many different ways using sounds, scent, body language, and marking. All white-tailed deer are capable of producing audible noises, unique to each animal. Fawns release a high-pitched squeal, known as a bleat, to call out to their mothers. A doe makes maternal grunts when searching for her bedded fawns. Grunting produces a low, guttural sound that will attract the attention of any other deer in the area. Both does and bucks snort, a sound that often signals danger. As well as snorting, bucks also grunt at a pitch that gets lower with maturity. Bucks are unique in their grunt-snort-wheeze pattern that often shows aggression and hostility. Another way white-tailed deer communicate is with their white tail. When a white-tail deer is spooked it will raise its tail to warn the other deer in the area that can see it.

This doe and her daughter were just beyond the wall, I watched through the window for a bit, then picked up the camera, went out and walked through the wet myrtle to get this shot. She stayed so long, I was able to get really close before her tail went up and off she leaped, waving her white flag.

Raining hard here on the biggest travel day ( 43 million on the go!) for the Thanksgiving holiday. Up north it's a wet heavy snow changing plans for so many. My brother and sister-in-law were planning on leaving for our Machiasport Maine summer place today, but instead left after supper last night arriving after 1:30 AM. It was a good choice since the area there is now blanketed in snow . They'll spend tomorrow's Thanksgiving meal with good friends in the area. My niece, S , and her boyfriend, D,(blipper as well,) will hopefully make it up safely this evening. Nephew G will hopefully find a turkey sandwich in a pub with some fellow American students. My brother will do the final winterization of our summer place and be home Sunday.

We have some of T's family arriving tonight, snowy weather is making things difficult for them in New Hampshire with a foot on the ground already. They may arrive earlier, so I must get to my jobs and my pre-Turkey Day cooking.

For the Record,
This day came in dark and stormy with rain and terrible driving conditions for the biggest American travel day.
