A day of running errands and doing all those chores that have been put off all week was finished off rather nicely by a glass or two in one of my favourite pub gardens. I find the place a little pretentious these days, but tonight we were the only ones foolish enough to sit outside, under the heaters and enjoyed the view.

The quote was chosen because Lewis Carroll entertained the real Alice along the riverbank here with the stories that inspired Alice in Wonderland. JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis and Colin Dextor (author of the Inspector Morse books) are other famous visitors.

Morse and Lewis were featured sat in this very spot enjoying the same view several times in the TV programmes.
