The Poss

Lochardil Primary School

Not much of a shot but taken around 8:00 am when still fairly dark through the mesh fence which separates it from the local newspaper outlet. A dismal wet day and I only ventured out again to take the wheelie bin up to the end of the lane. Some teacher already sorting out his/her classroom. There's usually a few cars in the staff carpark by 8:15 and I know one teacher who is regularly in by that time and suffering under a heavy workload. Teaching is not the easy cushy job that many think but nevertheless I suspect that tomorrow's strike will not get universal support from the general public. Mrs P who also teaches, but not in this school, has not caught the Greek disease and will not be striking. Highland Region are however closing all schools to pupils after polling teachers about their intentions.
One factor of discontent is the workload created by excess documentation. I just heard about one teacher who was intending to take her infant class for a short walk round the local area looking at architecture and buildings. The new "risk assessment" form would take much longer to fill in than the activity itself. So there'll be no walk. Way back in the 1960s I remember taking kids to the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales for weekends and they had a great time without any of this twaddle.
Sorry this horse is a bit high - better get down carefully.
