Desert Sailboat

This sailboat has been marooned in a desert marina for several years. The mast is up and the sails are bent on as if it could sail away through the chain link fence. I have always felt sorry for it and have always intended it to be subject of a blip. Today there was a stepladder alongside, a clue foretelling that something would soon happen and the boat would be gone. The marina representative said that someone was interested in a purchase. I will be happy that the old girl will have a chance to see water once more.

My sympathies have been aroused because of recollections of owning a 27 foot sailboat on Lake Michigan for 30 years. We raced and cruised and spent many rainy weekends on the boat with two small children. It was a glorious time...
