Whalebone Arch, Stanley

This is one of the 'classic' landmarks in the centre of Stanley in the Falkland Islands. After a couple of weeks of island hopping, I'm now in Stanley to send some postcards, restock at the local supermarket (which seems to be a Waitrose branch - right through to the reusable shopping bags and the local charity tokens) and wait for my South Georgia boat to arrive on Saturday.

The whalebone arch is outside Christ Church Cathedral. It was set up in 1933 to mark the centenary of British rule in the Falklands, and the jaw bones from two blue whales came from the whaling stations in South Georgia.
