Ramblings of Ray

Light and Darkness

Light eludes us much of the time these days as darkness embraces more than its usual
share of hours.
Artificial light can never emulate, but it can add warmth and atmosphere. A lamp inside a beautifully fretted table can focus on the hands that made the piece over days and weeks and months. It can also seek out shadows and spread patterns of light over an otherwise dull plain carpet.
Light can illuminate. It can offer new insights. With it we can see what was before obscure. Through it we can see a way forward- an opening onto a path or paths that draw us towards what can be.
When we have light in abundance we take it for granted. Winter invites us to remember that, as we await its return after the shortest day to come ends and we begin again the cycle towards lengthening days.
