Saint Aldhelm

Frome's emblem is a depiction of Saint Aldhelm, an Anglo-Saxon abbot, who has been described as the first English scholar. He was a teacher, poet, song writer, counsellor and bishop. He initiated the building of churches and monasteries and is accredited as being the founder of Frome.

Thanks to the town council and the Chamber of Commerce, these brackets have been going up over almost every shop window in the town, to hold little Christmas trees decked with tiny white lights. For the first time in ages, we have some half-decent Christmas lights!
