Sunday: Definitions

Drove back down from Newcastle today, having been up for a family birthday and to catch up with relatives in general.  A fun, full-on weekend!  We came back to London, via Liverpool, where we stopped off at K's mum so that we could get some shopping in for her so the whole day has been spent in the car....

One of the reasons we drove was to pick up some stuff that I had up there.  This included a full set of children's encyclopaedia's that belonged to my Grandad who passed away last year.  They date from 1930 and some of the definitions are cracking.  For example:

effeminate: Unmanly; womanish.  A boy who never takes an interest in any form of sport or exercise may tend to become effeminate, or unmanly.  If he acts effeminately, that is in an unmanly way, he will be chaffed by his companions for effeminacy is hated by the young Briton.

So be careful, boys - play sport, or else!

Have backblipped from here.

I have a few days off this week so hope to do some serious comment catch-up.
