The land of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

A stunning walk today along the Chiltern Way: the route runs from Nettlebed (with an interesting landmark brick kiln) through the Warburg Nature Reserve (excellent for fungi), across fields, through beechwoods and then drops down to the Stonor estate. Stonor House dates back to the 12th century though it was mainly built in the 14th century and has now been remodelled in Georgian style: it's an impressive pile set in a vast deer park and cradled in a wooded valley.

The path carries on through woodland and rolling downs and into a further valley nestling the beautiful village of Turville. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Vicar of Dibley were both filmed there and it has a feel that time has passed it by. There are stunning views when you climb out of the valley.

Made it back to Nettlebed just in time as the sun was setting.
